On November 3-5, representatives from The Wicks Group attended the fifth annual U.S. – India Aviation Summit in Bangalore, India. Convened by the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) in partnership with the U.S. – India Aviation Cooperation Program and India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation, the bilateral conference affirmed both countries’ commitment to advancing India’s aviation priorities and objectives. Attendees included government officials from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, the Transportation Security Administration, and the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The Wicks Group was a summit sponsor, along with other aviation industry members such as Boeing, United Airlines, and Oshkosh India.
The Summit consisted of a series of panel discussions between members of the public and private sectors. Panelists were encouraged to share their experiences and best practices to help promote growth across all sectors of the Indian aviation industry. As a sponsor of the summit, Glenn Wicks, Managing Director of The Wicks Group, moderated the Summit’s penultimate panel, entitled “Aviation Sector Skills Development.” After a robust discussion, the panel proposed a tiered technical skills development system that would include university education, on-the-job and vocational training, cooperative training between universities and industry, and government-sponsored programs to facilitate development of a skilled and qualified technical labor force in India.
Throughout the conference, The Wicks Group was commended by representatives of the U.S. government and the government of India for assisting India in regaining FAA IASA Category I status in April 2015, through a project supported by USTDA. The Wicks Group remains committed to supporting further development of DGCA’s aviation oversight systems, and the overall growth and expansion of the Indian aviation industry.
